Affirmations, States of mind, गुरुर्ब्रह्मा gururbrahmA shlokam

Affirmations regarding the states of mind:

1) Mind immersed or subsided into pure consciousness; nirvikalpa samAdhi, guNAtIta
2) Mind sees Lord and Its Power in everything (or in heart of pure devotion)
3) Mind acknowledges God and world, God not held permanently
Luckily for this one the fourth state has been transcended permanently
4) Mind only sees world but no God

sAttvic buddhi is the portal to Realization.

For many the path may be to see God in Guru as human first, for some Guru seen inside as God alone.

Different interpretations of gururbrahmA shlokam:

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णु गुरुर्देवो महेश्वर:
गुरुस्साक्ष ात् परंब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नम:
gururbrahmA gururviShNu gururdevo maheshvarah
gurussAkshAt parambrahmA tasmai shrI gurave namah

Some interpret it as
The Guru is BrahmA, the Guru is ViShNu, the Guru is Maheshvara
Guru is the very ParabrahmA, therefore obeisance or salutations to Guru

Of course, if the mind realizes that God is the true Guru, then this is the correct interpretation, but often the mind confuses the body of the one who speaks the Truth to be the Guru. Then the embodiment of Guru is taken to be Guru and the aspirant expects the body of the Guru to be like BrahmA, ViShNu or Shiva. This results in excessive adoration of the body of the Guru. This is a stage that must be transcended.

To this one by Grace the verse was revealed as follows:
BrahmA is thy Guru, ViShNu is thy Guru, Thy Guru is Maheshvara
Thy Guru is ParabrahmA, therefore obeisance or salutations to Guru.

As a delightful consequence, this mind did not look outside for a Guru in the body, but rapidly turned inward to seek the Guru within. The recognition that God indeed is the Guru was very beneficial at an early stage in practice, and the mergence with Guru being synonymous with the mergence with God also became clear rapidly.

स कालेन अनवच्छेदात् sa kAlena anavacchedAt [He was unbroken by Time]

This is a verse that appears in the योग सूत्र Yoga SUtra I.26
स पूर्वेषामपि गुरु: कालेन अनवच्छेदात् sa pUrveshAmapi guruh kAlena anavacchedAt

This verse refers to the characterization of ईश्वर Ishvara, the Lord, in the योग सूत्र Yoga SUtra.

In the योग सूत्र Yoga SUtra, ईश्वर Ishvara is a special form of पुरुष puruSha who is untainted by कर्म karma

Import: The direct experience of Consciousness is that Brahman is unbroken, unbounded, or unencompassable by Time.

सहज सविकल्प समाधि [sahaja savikalpa samAdhi]

सहज सविकल्प समाधि sahaja savikalpa samAdhi

Import: When the mind sees everything in the world as a play of शिव Shiva and शक्ति Shakti, always, without effort, that is सहज सविकल्प समाधि sahaja savikalpa samAdhi

व्युत्थान vyutthAna and निर्विकल्प nirvikalpa

व्युत्थान vyutthAna when completely rested, then निर्विकल्प nirvikalpa

Import: In the योग सूत्र Yoga SUtra there is a verse that talks about the व्युत्थान संस्कार vyutthAna samskAra.
YS III.9

This is the संस्कार samskAra of emergence of thought. When this संस्कार samskAra is completely erased then सहज निर्विकल्प समाधि sahaja nirvikalpa samAdhi prevails.

समाधि SamAdhi

No sense of I, only You.

Non-dual, no object (no light or sound)

परा वैराग्यं parA vairAgyam दृष्ट अनुश्रविक dRShTa anushravika to all seen and heard

Path to it is blissful

No questions

Nothing is there to be done any more

Peace

No doubts about the state and after

श्रद्धा shraddhA made indestructible

Revelation of knowledge from the infinite library of wisdom inside

Many to Five.

Five to Three.

Three to One.

One and Its Power to be Many.

True Freedom

The only true freedom is freedom from desire.

I am neither good nor bad
Neither perfect nor imperfect
Neither virtuous nor unvirtuous
Neither smart nor stupid
Neither diligent nor negligent
Neither timely nor late

I am.

That is all.

Be in this place. There is no other, in Truth.

The Royal Path

Those who have experienced a full kuNDalinI awakening are marked for a different path; a different life. They are called dvija (or twice born) in the Vedic tradition. Just like royalty cannot live the life of a commoner, the dvija (which is the true meaning of brAhmaNa, and not just birth into a brAhmin family) is now inexorably pulled to the spiritual path; they are the spiritual royalty and cannot live like other people. And yet, the spiritual royal must live like the lowest commoner in this time of kali yuga, for the greater good of all concerned.

prayAsa, or excessive exertion is counterproductive to yoga or union with the Self. Awakening of kuNDalinI can sometimes highly accentuate feelings of fatigue and tiredness. One does not know where the energy can go, but it is going into spiritual tapas.

One must take care, for this path can seem hard and painful at times.

Through past karma one is sometimes impelled to prayAsa. One must try to get enough rest as best as possible, and timely light meals. Showers are refreshing- water is a pure manifestation of consciousness. Gentle prANAyAma is of course helpful always.

For external interactions, always practice as the Yoga SUtra recommends:

maitrI karuNA, muditA upekshAnAm sukha dukha puNya apuNya bhavanAtah cetah prasaAdanam

friendliness to the happy, compassion towards the sad, delight at the virtuous puNya and indifference to the apuNya, these are productive of calmness and tranquillity of mind.

Try to ease the mind to rest and calm as much as possible.

May your burdens be lightened manyfold!
